Which Way, Namibia
By: Henning Melber*
Research Director at the Institute
Celebrating Independence on 21st March 1990, the sovereign Republic of Namibia had been welcome to the international community of states as a success story. It marked the end of more than a century of oppressive colonial rule characterized by organized racial domination. Ending such intolerable anachronism of systematic violation against human rights towards the end of the twentieth century was a long overdue correction of moral injustice and in itself an achievement that marked historic progress.
