Press Releases [3]

Members of the Media,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

In our consultative meeting earlier this morning (10h00), the representatives of DTA, RDP, RP and SWANU of Namibia discussed the election process and noted with great concern the following irregularities:

1. Cast ballots without the ECN identification stamp were found. A mobile team No: 301 at Epembe in Ohangwena region is one of such examples. This incident was due either to criminal negligence by officials of the ECN or worse yet, attempt at outright rigging.
2. It has been proven that the indelible ink used is removable and incidences of voters attempting to vote more than once have been widely reported. One such example was noted at Jan Mohr High School polling station at Dorado Park.

3. The discrepancies of the voters’ roll have raised questions. The ECN has presented the Namibian public with four different figures: 1,3 million; 961 175; 1,1 million and finally 822 344. Now the question is which of these different figures is the correct and final or which of the four should we trust?

4. Several party agents were prevented from entering polling stations countrywide and on different excuses.

5. Some party agents were prevented from sleeping at polling stations. In Okahandja, the police evicted all poll agents.

6. SWAPO party agents and presiding officers at the following polling stations at Omulonga Constituency, Onanghwee, Otunganga, Ondeikela and Oneihenda in Ohangwena region were personally assisting voters to cast their votes in gross violation of section 84 (1) of the Electoral Act.

7. A Deputy Minister (Kilius Nguvauva) was openly campaigning at polling stations in Omaheke region. The incident was reported to the police officers present but no action was taken.

The catalogue of incidents is long and as a result, a dossier is being compiled to prove numerous irregularities that had occurred during the election process. With the few examples given above, we believe our concerns have been proved genuine and surely this may compromise the outcome of the elections.

We thank you.
